Heike Elendt, Hamburg, Germany (OnLine Language Trainer Course participant)

One of the most important things was the learning by doing. There was no academic distance,  while reading about the theory we experienced the way it worked. As a result of this there were created so many interesting  projects, shown on the last f2f-meeting.

I enjoyed a lot the contact with peers/colleagues. In the normal life as a freelance evening teacher you don't meet colleagues often. You get your feedback normally when people are staying on the course or when they are leaving. Here it was possible to discuss ideas and get a feedback on ideas, which, I believe, helped a lot and was a step out of the above mentioned isolation.

Teamwork is a strength of CSCL, I think. Every time somebody mentioned a problem it became obvious that we weren't alone. Others made the same experience and there was also always somebody to find a solution. This created a very good feeling among the group-members and encouraged us to confront new challenges.

In a face to face course I wouldn't have taken in so much and I would have had to fail attending sometimes. Here it was possible to catch up if you missed something when not being able to log in for some time. Nothing gets lost. This is a great advantage of online learning.

As distance is no longer a problem, contacts to far away living people provide a very interesting source for intercultural learning. It was very interesting to observe in the Language Corner, where we met people from all over the world. The idea should be intensified and perhaps become part of the method of online teaching.

Tutor support was a very positive experience, especially in the beginning. This created the confidence to contact directly, later, when there appeared difficulties. Later on, perhaps due to cultural differences, it seemed to me to be overdone sometimes. But that could also depend on my dry northern German temperament ;-) which might be difficult to meet!

All in all the OLLT course was really a good experience and I would like to thank all who made it possible
