James Clay, Bedminster, Bristol (OnLine Trainer Course participant)
As usual I shall start at the end...
The final culmination of ten weeks work of: learning how to use FirstClass, look at the benefits of CSCL and spending lots of money on the phone bill; can be found at:
This web site details the project I undertook as part of the OLT course.
The course started with a f2f session in Bristol in July; I honestly thought it was a one day conference with a view to maybe doing something in October. I was surprised, well shocked to be honest, that I had been signed up for a ten week online course... not quite what I expected. The first few weeks were tough; I was use to working with newsreaders and e-mail software, so I found FirstClass quite difficult to use (took me two weeks to master offline reading...) and to be honest I was not enjoying the course - but I stuck it out.
Just as I got into the course and was starting to see the benefits of CSCL and OnLine Learning in general I went on holiday to Wales (as you do).
When I got back I was awash with red flags, hundreds of the blighters, took me two days to plough through them... and it was in this sea of red flags that I found Mod4 Task 1 (the final project for non-OLT types). This was something I could get my teeth into. I was now immersed in FirstClass, I wanted more red flags, I posted and posted and really started to enjoy myself - and I got my project completed. ;-)
I have found the OLT course extremely interesting and inspiring, hopefully now that this course has ended It won't be the last time I use FirstClass and it would be nice if the next time I do, I am a tutor helping students like me, gain a new skill, learn new stuff, etc...
Thanks to my colleagues in OLT_BG and all the tutors and Keith (the techhie (can I call you that Keith)).
