What this 5-day course offers

The Aim

The course will enhance the participants’ awareness of the importance of cultural issues in motivating and improving their students’ participation in various learning activities.  The course is designed to give lecturers, teachers and trainers, cultural tips and hints to enhance their course participants’ motivation to learn and become involved in the learning process. The Course team would ensure that the course participants represented various different cultures, in order to enhance the learning outcomes.

Who Should Attend

This is a course for lecturers, teachers and trainers who wish to introduce orenhance their facilitative skills and improve their ability to deliver participant centred learning to course participants with different cultural backgrounds. 

The course is highly interactive and participants will be expected to take an active part. The course leader will encourage participants to share their experiences, exercises and coping strategies during this course

The Objectives

By the end of the course, successful participants will be able to:

1.    Explain the possible effects of culture on individual learning styles

2.    List strategies to identify the type of learners, having regard to their cultural background

3.    Identify cultural reasons why participants might disengage from the learning process

4.    List cultural acceptable strategies to cope with different types of learners

5.    List ways of gaining learners ’ psychological acceptance’ from participants with different backgrounds

6.    Explain the benefits of collaborative learning and identify strategies to overcome some cultural resistance to it

7.    List stimulating ways of starting courses having regard to cultural diversity

8.    Demonstrate how to elicit existing knowledge of culturally diverse participants attending the course

9.    Explain the advantages and disadvantages of small group work when dealing with a multi-national group

10.List practical ‘Do’s & Don’ts of facilitating small group learning activities when dealingwith diverse cultures

11.Demonstrate how to effectively debrief group exercises when dealing with participants having diverse cultures

12.Recognise the cultural effects of body language when delivering learning

This Course is delivered over 5 days.

Cost
This course costs:
Tutoring fees  £500  or  €550
Accommodation and meals € 800 (for grant funded courses)
Travel costs are not included


 
Number of Participants

Because of the interactive nature of this course the minimum number of participants needed to run this course are 6. The maximum number of participants the facilitator will accommodate on the workshop is 24.
