Managing OnLine Learning
Who Should Attend
Training Managers, HR Specialists and anyone with responsibility for decision making in relation to online learning.
Course Format
Each participant attends this Course online through virtual classrooms in the Abacus Virtual College. This gives the participant first hand experience of online learning.
The Course can be accessed over a telephone line that connects the student’s computer to the Abacus Virtual College or via the Internet using software supplied by Abacus. The Course is accredited by the ILM (Institute of Leadership & Management).
Aim
To give participants an understanding of online training in order that they can make informed decisions in relation to its implementation, consequential needs of staff and students and effective online learning evaluation.
Objectives
By the end of this course successful participants will be able to
explain the benefits and disadvantages of Computer Supported Collaborative Learning
list various ways of keeping online student dropout rates low
identify and develop strategies for effectively advising online tutors on how to cope with problems typically encountered in online training
list ways of supporting online tutors
develop a strategy to monitor and evaluate online training courses
produce an action plan in relation to online learning in their organisation
Content
Module 1
Exploring online learning
Weeks 1 – 3
Delivered online. Participants will
practice using the online delivery medium undertake some online exercises
get to know the features of online delivery software
gain confidence in using online delivery software
discuss any needs, concerns or problems they might have
discuss the advantages and disadvantages of Computer Supported Collaborative Learning
Module 2
Examining at the issues
Weeks 4 - 9
Delivered online. Participants will
consider issues relating to the effective implementation of online training in their organisation
identify ways of supporting online tutoring staff
develop ways of keeping online student dropout rates low
consider different forms of online learning
explore ways of evaluating online learning
Module 3
Developing an action plan
Week 10
By this stage participants will have gained sufficient knowledge to be able to appreciate what they need to do to develop or improve online learning within their organisation and they will produce an appropriate action plan.
Participants will
work on developing an action plan to develop or improve online learning within their organisation
discuss issues with their tutor
receive tutor support
discuss what they have gained from the course
write and post to their tutor the final version of their action plan
