Mentoring
Course Overview
The course is approved by the ILM (Institute for Leadership and Management) as a Development Award, a nationally recognized, independent, awarding body in Great Britain, awards certificates to participants whose course work meets their high standards.
This course is particularly suitable for
professional, graduate and managerial staff people in mid-career
staff in high-pressure, fast-changing situations who have a degree of uncertainty in their work situations
The skills gained can be applied to the mentoring of peers or subordinates.

Content
Phase 1 - Preliminary workbook (start point)
Phase 2 - One-day meeting (in week two)
This meeting starts to build a learning community, pairs the online mentors and enables them to agree contracts with one another, and reaches agreement on how the full group will work together and how the tutors will support this. It also gives people practice in using the online
system and software.
Phase 3 - Defining Peer Mentoring (6 weeks in length, starting in week 2)
Phase 4 - Practising Peer Mentoring (6 weeks in length, starting in week 8)
Phase 5 - Applying Peer Mentoring (2 weeks in length, starting in week 12)
Phase 6 - One-day meeting (in week 15)
This final meeting reviews the course and the learning that it has fostered, and integrates this learning into participants’ action plans for the future.

Total time about 165 hours made up of
Online contact about 10 hours
Face-to-face group work, about 15 hours
Supported self study (triggered by online activity) about 120 hours
Offline Peer Mentoring about 20 hours
Duration 10 weeks
